Strategy Lesson Response

Ms. Broussard and I presented vocabulary predictions as our reading strategy.  We begun our presentation with a PowerPoint with accompanying fill in the blank notes.  After giving the PowerPoint presentation we gave two lists of vocabulary words and had the students use the strategies presented first in groups then in pairs.  I feel that the PowerPoint presentation ran smoothly, and that Ms. Broussard did an excellent job explaining the strategy in an effective way.  I also liked that we used fill in the blank notes to keep students engaged.  For the first vocabulary list we had the class work at their table and group the words into given categories, make gist statement, and write questions they may have.  This ran smoothly for the most part, however, I feel I could have done a better job of explaining the directions.  For the second list of words we had the class work individually and then share their work and give feedback to another classmate.  This ran well however, I believe my instruction was a little unclear at first.  I believe that working in groups worked better for the lesson in this context; but think working in pairs may be more successful in a different setting.  Throughout the lesson I kept thinking of good classroom management techniques and implemented a few.  Overall, I feel this experience has given me a better idea of how to teach a class and what techniques are useful.
